We live in an interdependent world and we strongly believe that politics today, and the challenges we all face, are global, and that therefore global responses must be found.

Chamber of Deputies, Italian Parliament

The International Conference “Growing and Greening the Economy: New Ideas for the G8 and Copenhagen Summits” has been jointly convened also by the Centro per il Futuro Sostenibile and the Center for American Progress.

The meeting took place on Monday 18th May, 2009, at the Chamber of Deputies, Italian Parliament in Rome, and brought together politicians and thinkers from across the globe together with members of the Italian Government, the new Administration in the United States, and officials of the European Union.

Held during the Italian Presidency of the G8, and just a few weeks ahead of the G8 Leaders’ Summit, the Conference took place at a crucial stage in international climate negotiations.

A series of panels assessed whether the election of President Obama will help establish a new transatlantic partnership on climate change, how Europe and the United States should engage with emerging powers from Asia and the Americas, as well as the opportunities that a shift towards green jobs and new energy might provide for renewed economic growth in both the developed and the developing worlds.
